2014-07-06 Ha Ny in the magical forest

Today i was finaly able to take some pictures of the beautiful model Ha Ny in a forest south of Munich. I am always looking forward to shooting a new face.

All images were shot with available light only using the E-M1 and the 12-40/2.8 and 75/1.8 lenses with exposure adjusted to the face of the model, i.e. the background was deliberately overexposed. This effect was further enhanced in Photoshop and with RadLab filters.

2013-12-03 Charity: Prints for the Philippines

I guess we all felt helpless watching the damage and destruction typhoon Hayian (Yolanda) brought to the Philippines. Donating some money sure helped a bit but i am no Croesus and was looking for a different way to help when i read about Neil Buchan-Grant’s wonderful “Prints for the Philippines” campaign on tumblr.

2013-11-02: A bad case of GAS or "Bigger is better"

You may ask yourself why someone using a mFT camera is writing about GAS and FF sensors. Well, today we met at Stefan's studio for a workshop on how to create realistic scars. It was a bit late for Halloween but we had lots of fun and Nadja (Spiegellicht) did a great job teaching. During lunch one of the participating photographers asked for advice regarding an affordable FF camera because he thought his own APS-C model wasn't good enough anymore and he wanted a bigger sensor but had limited budget. I was a bit puzzled because i simply adore his pictures and never assumed he was feeling his gear was not producing good enough quality.

2012-02-11 The OM-D E-M5 Sensor Mystery

Last Friday i had the chance to test my latest object of photographic desire: an Olympus OM-D E-M5. I honestly admitt that i was actually less interested in taking pictures than in finding out what the supposedly new sensor can achieve in terms of high ISO and DR, whether it is on par with or better as the E-P3 … AND last but not least who designed it and who builds it.

On Friday evening i actually considered dissassembling the camera, when my friend Catherine called me. She happens to be a kind of priestress of an ancient and forgotten cult and lives south of Munich in the middle of a beautiful area with lots of forrest, hills and small lakes. Catherine is really something special, not only because at 55 she looks even better than Madonna but also because she has the uncanny ability to learn things by simply touching them (works with human hands too) and she owns a crystal ball that – according to her – sometimes allows her to see the future as well as the present and the past.

2011-08-13 Gear: E-P3 AF Test at the Munich Eisbach

I was a bit puzzled about the different reports regarding the AF capability of the E-P3. Reason is that i’d never buy this camera for shooting sports and action but now wanted to see if i was able to take some shots of the river surfers at the Munich Eisbach using the kit lens and the mZD 12/2.
